Morzine / Avoriaz
Info
The Portes du Soleil offer all ski enthusiasts an unlimited ski area
between France and Switzerland, between lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, at the foot
of the Dents Blanches and the Dents du Midi. Ski slopes for all levels of
skiing, panoramic views to take your breath away, whether you choose
the peaks of Mossettes or Chamossiθre, the forest paths of the Lindarets or
Morgins, everybody will find their own particular corner of paradise, somewhere
in the 650 km of marked ski runs in the biggest ski area in the world.
The 3D skiing in the Morzine/Avoriaz sector, the Morzine/Les Gets
or the Portes du Soleil, is even bigger!
The Morzine - Les Gets sector links the Plιney and Nyon to Morzine, Chavannes
and Mont Chιry in les Gets, offering 107 km of ski runs between 1000 and 2020
meters in altitude.
The Avoriaz sector is equally accessible from the village centre
by the Super Morzine gondola lift (which is equipped with new cabins), it is
comprised of 70 km of ski runs between 1000 and 2466 meters in altitude.
This is paradise for those liking the more modern forms of snow sports,
as there are 2 snowparks and the new "Biotop" (the first 100% ecological
winter forest park), a half pipe, a "canyon" slope and a new boarder
slope. There are also and 4 snowcross
Morzine Avoriaz is one of the shortest transfers of the French resorts from
Geneva Airport, only 1.5 hours. Its not a bad drive either, only 9 hours
sometimes less from Calais. We love this resort because of the amount of areas
there are and the ease of access. All of the 5 areas are linked with lifts apart
from Les Gets and Avoriaz, this is only a 5 min walk or road train ride across
town. There are areas for all levels of skier/snowboarder, from nice gentle
nursery slopes in Avoriaz and Les Gets to serious off piste in Avoriaz and Nyon.
Another advantage of Morzine Avoriaz is that most of the lifts are Gondolas or
chair lifts. There are not that many Button lifts so this is good for boarders.

their kit off at around midnight on a Sunday night!!!!!
Les Paridies Discotheque - Never been here so I don't really know the
score.

Good Runs
Beginners:
The top of Pleney Lift
has a small but good nursery slope with a chair up the side.
Avoriaz is will kitted
out for Beginners but if your a first timer then get the bus to the Prodains
telecabin then the chair Plateau on the left. There is a big wide green slope,
perfect for beginners.
Others:
Its difficult to know
where to start as there are so many runs.
Les Gets:
Mont Chery runs are
all good. You do have to walk across Les Gets to get to it but it is worth it.
Normally quiet, it has a boarder cross and small park. If you go up and over the
top there is a great black off piste run, get to it early before it gets mogeled
up.
The Nyon area is good
for everything. There is some good off piste to be had but make sure you know
where you are going.
Avoriaz:
There is a Half pipe
just above the main town and a Park at the top of the Arare lift going up from
the main town. The Chavanette area is good for just of the piste off piste, but
it is a bit of a flat run back to Avoriaz!! The run down to the bottom of the
Prodains Telecabin is a nice forest path run when you get a bit lower. All of
the Runs around the Lindarets area are good, mainly forest track runs. This area
is also the main access into Switzland via the Mossettes lift.
